ALLEN WAYNE GRIFFING

Allen Wayne Griffing, 74, of Kearney, MO and formerly of Polo, MO, died at 6:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 at his home.
Allen was born on October 23, 1936 in Ray County, MO to Jesse Arnold and Laveta (Cox) Griffing. He married Carol J. Kelley of Polo, MO on March 29, 1959. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include; one son, Kevin Griffing of St. Joseph, MO, one daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and George Handy of Kearney, MO, two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Dorothy Griffing of Richmond, MO, David and Jeanne Griffing of Wood Heights, MO, one sister, Mary Earring of Lee's Summit, MO, five grandchildren, Kyle Handy and his wife, Natalie, Craig Handy, Kellie Handy, Logan Griffing and Ashlyn Griffing. One great granddaughter also survives, Mia Handy.
Allen was an assembler for the Ford Motor Company in Claycomo, MO for twenty-four years before retiring in 1999. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local #249. He served in the Missouri Army National Guard for six years. He also was a farmer. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Polo, MO. He had lived in Polo, MO before moving to Kearney five years ago. He enjoyed traveling, but most of all his family.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Polo First Christian Church.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church of Polo. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 21, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, MO. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery.
