DR. ALMA JEAN "JEANNE" OWEN

Dr. Alma Jean "Jeanne" Owen, 68, of Richmond, MO, died Monday, July 25, 2016 at Ray County Memorial Hospital, Richmond, MO.

Jeanne was born on March 8, 1948 in Kansas City, MO the daughter of Kenneth and Mary Jean (Kindell) Owen.

Survivors include: two brothers, Ernie and Linda Owen of Clarinda, IA and Joe and Barbara Owen of Williamsburg, VA; her nieces and nephews she considered as her children; and a special friend, Bill Hogrebe of Madrid, NM.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents and one brother David Ira Owen.

Jeanne was a college professor. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Independence, MO in 1966.  She then received her undergraduate degree from the College of the Ozarks, and then went on to receive her Masters and Doctorate in Family Economics from the University of Missouri.  She later worked in Burlington, VT as a teacher in research.  She then taught at Lincoln University in Jefferson City, MO.  Jeanne became a full professor at Purdue University where she taught for ten years.  After Jeanne retired she returned to Richmond in 2007 to be close to her family.  Jeanne enjoyed beadwork and knitting.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Senior Center in Ray County.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond.  Visitation will be from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, at the funeral home.  Burial will follow services in Richmond Memory Gardens.   Thurman Funeral Home Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.  On line condolences may be left on our website at www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
