ANNA BELL THOMPSON
Anna Bell Thompson, 90, of Orrick, MO died Monday, June 9, 2014 at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond, MO.
Anna was born on October 10, 1923 in Van Buren, AR to Thomas Gordon and Rosa Etta (Harris) Cates. She married Melvine Thompson of York, NE on September 16, 1950; he preceded her in death on March 27, 2013.
Survivors include two sons and daughter-in-law, Melvine R. and Gloria Jean Thompson of Orrick and Larry Patrick Thompson of Orrick; one daughter, Barbara Kay Russell of Orrick; two brothers and sister-in-law, Norman and Phyllis Cates of Raymore, MO and Thomas Cates, II of Lee's Summit, MO; two sisters and brother-in-law, Ina Jean Cusick of Kansas City, MO and Sue and Robert Kuntz of Harrisonville, MO; eight grandchildren, Catie Hall, Danny Smallwood, Tony Smallwood, Mike Whorton, Jr., Jacob Stevenson, Anna Thompson, Samantha Thompson and Dylan Russell; and seven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Anna was preceded in death by one daughter, Betty Jean Whorton; one sister, Edith Cates; and one son-in-law, Larry Russell.
Anna was a homemaker. She served in the United States Army during WWII as a surgical technician. She was a member of the First Assembly God Church in Richmond. She had taught Sunday school for over 50 years. Anna volunteered her time at the Salvation Army and held several other jobs outside of the home. She had lived most of her life in Orrick
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Assembly of God Church in Richmond. Visitation will be Thursday, June 12 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the church.
