AQUILLA IRENE "MAMA" (HUDSON) DOLLINS

Aquilla Irene "Mama" (Hudson) Dollins, 104, of Excelsior Springs, MO died Thursday, February 19, 2015 at the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Excelsior Springs, MO.

Aquilla was born on May 21, 1910 in Berclair, TX to Earnest Glenwood and Aquilla (Weeks) Hudson. She married Robert William Dollins on May 20, 1957. He preceded her in death on October 24, 1984.

Survivors include one niece, Johnnie Bailey and her extended family of Gilmore, TX; one daughter-in-law, Lema Leeder of Roanoke, VA; 2 grandsons; 3 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren; also survived by Mike and Debi Heitman and their family of Excelsior Springs.

In addition to her parents and husband, Aquilla was preceded in death by one son, Billy Eugene Leeder; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Aquilla was a LPN. She was a member of the Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Wood Heights Ward. She had lived in the Kansas City area before moving to Excelsior Springs in 1985. She loved to read and write. Aquilla taught herself how to use a computer at the age of 96. Aquilla had resided at the Excelsior Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center since 2008 and was proud to call the residents and staff her family.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Vitas Hospice.

Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Crowley Cemetery near Rayville, MO. On line condolences may be left on our website at www.thurmanfuneralhome.com
