ARVIL EARL "SPARKY" FOLEY
Arvil E. "Sparky" Foley, 89, of Hardin, MO, left his earthly home and is in his heavenly home to be with his sweetheart at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at the North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, MO.
"Sparky" was born on August 31, 1920 in Missouri City, MO to Roy Price and Sarah B. (Shepard) Foley. He married Margaret E. Reynolds of Richmond, MO on December 12, 1947. She preceded him in death on March 15, 2003.
Survivors include; one son and daughter-in-law, Mark A. and Pam Foley of Orrick, MO, one daughter and son-in-law, Marsha E. and John Acree of Hardin, MO, three sisters and one brother-in-law, Virginia Wilson of Independence, MO, Elizabeth and Bill Turner of Excelsior Springs, MO, Helen Turner of Excelsior Springs, MO, five grandchildren and families, Michael Foley, Kendearly and Kyle Tanner, Marketta Foley, Brandon Acree, Cody Acree, two step grandchildren, Matthew Wynn, Stephanie and husband, Jon Barham, three great grandchildren, Christopher Foley, D. J. Fischer, Michael Tanner, one step great grandchild, Roger Tanner, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, "Sparky" was preceded in death by a daughter, Janet Louise Foley, who died in infancy and one sister, Ruby Fletcher.
"Sparky" was a 1939 graduate of Missouri City High School. He was a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office. He was a truck driver for Rooney Trucking. He operated Foley Service Station in Hardin. He was a farmer. He was a United States Navy veteran, serving in WW II. He was a torpedo man, stationed on the USS #28, #29, #30 and #32. He was a member of the American Legion Post #95. He was a member of the VFW Post #3398. He was a member of the Disabled Veterans. He was a member of the Independent Order of the Odd Fellows. He was on the city council of Hardin, serving as mayor. He was a member of the Hardin Christian Church. "Sparky" served his Lord well and the strength in his faith was expressed through many testimonials which were published in area newspapers. He had lived in Hardin most of his life.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hardin Christian Church or to the Ray County Home Health.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral home in Richmond. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral home in Richmond. Burial will be in Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post #237 and Richmond VFW Post #4398.
