Barbara Ann "Barb" Finley, 79, of Stet, passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, at NorthCare Hospice House in North Kansas City.
Barb was born on August 5, 1943, in Hale, the daughter of Lewis Wright and Carrie "Ellen" (Gobert) Jones. She was united in marriage to John R. Finley of Stet on September 8, 1963; he survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: three sons: Jimmy R. (Nikki) Finley of Cowgill, Joe R. (Rhonda) Finley of Norborne, and Jared R. (Annie) Finley of Hardin; daughter, Jonetta R. (Jerry) Waters of Stet; 15 grandchildren: Nikete (Michael) Schroeder, Malachi Finley, Zak Finley, Jamison (Michelle) Carpenter, Alex Carpenter, Karlen Carpenter, Kady (Shaun) Cramer, Amber (Micah) Dunlap, Charlea (Lucas) Carlson, Jennifer (Lee) Rucker, Nelle "Boo" Finley, Jessica (Zach) Stith, Josh (Erin) Waters, Julia Finley, Morgan Finley, and Hannah Finley; 14 great-grandchildren: Lylah Finley, Syrus Finley, Ian Carpenter, Isaac Carpenter, Emma Carlson, Logan Weisz, Henrik Carlson, Josie Rucker, Anders Carlson, Dillon Oyler, Caleb Stith, Finley Waters, Gentry Waters, and Willow Finley; special friend, Sharie Finley; and many nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, Harvey and Ruby Finley, grandson, Jacob Finley, sisters, Ruth DeWitt, and Mary Ellen Walker, brothers-in-law, George Finley, Alva Finley, Otto Finley, Bill DeWitt, and Bob Willis, sisters-in-law, Claudean Finley, and Daveita Finley, and several nieces and nephews also preceded her in death.
Barb was reared and educated in Hale and graduated from the Hale High School in 1961. In addition to raising her family, she privately cleaned homes, operated the Plaza Café in Stet with her daughter, Jonetta, worked at Ideal Industries in Richmond, and was a substitute cook for the Stet High School. Barb also babysat for many friends and family over the years. She was mother to everyone and Grandma Barb to the rest. Barb was a legend to many. She was her children's, grandchildren's, and great-grandchildren's biggest fan and went to all of their events. Everybody knew her.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Bethany Church of the Brethren or the New Hope Cemetery Association. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 3, 2022, Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. from 8:00 P.M. on Friday, December 2, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, north of Hardin.
