CATHERINE ELLEN BANKS PFANNENSTIEL
Catherine Ellen Pfannenstiel, 85, of Dubuque, IA and formerly of Richmond, MO died Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Stonehill Care Center, Dubuque.
Catherine was born on October 8, 1927 in Springfield, MO to John Paul and Frances (Chalfant) Banks. She married Alvin Christopher Pfannenstiel in1952.
She is survived by her children who include, Marian Furst and her husband, Ken of Dubuque, IA; Ellen Gates and her husband, Wes of Leawood, KS; Teresa Bryant and her husband, Stephen of Lee's Summit, MO; Marguerite Hughes and her husband, Chris of Fort Stewart, GA; and Steven Pfannenstiel and his wife, Amy of Shawnee, KS; 15 grandchildren; 3 great- grandsons, Jensen and Anders Hill of Dubuque, IA; Duncan Johnson of St. Paul, MI ; and 1 great- granddaughter, Zara Bishop of Nigar, West Africa.
Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, John Frances "Frank" Banks; one sister, Mary Margaret Banks McKenna; and her son, Paul Pfannenstiel.
Catherine graduated from St. John's School of Nursing in 1948. She received a Bachelor of Arts at Ottawa University in 1977. Catherine, as a Registered Nurse, worked as the Head Nurse on the Medical Floor and Psychiatric Head Nurse at St. John's Hospital in Edina, Missouri. She was an instructor at Job Corps in Excelsior Springs. She was also the In-Service Director and Director of Nursing at Ray County Memorial Hospital in Richmond, MO. She was an active volunteer for the American Red Cross and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church parish in Richmond, MO. She was currently a member of Church of the Resurrection in Dubuque.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the St. Vincent De Paul Society in Richmond, MO, Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa or Hospice of Dubuque.
Funeral mass will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Richmond. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond where rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Burial will be in the Mount Olivet in Kansas City, MO.
