CHARLES R. HELWIG, SR.

Charles R. Helwig, Sr., 96 of Smithville, MO died Wednesday, January 02, 2013 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
Charles was born on July 9, 1916 in Seward, NE to Charles Lewis and Ruby (Smith) Helwig; He married Frances Marie Read of Sedalia, MO on March 5, 1939; she preceded him in death on February 18, 1987.
Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Charles R. and "Sherry" Helwig, Jr. of Shawnee, KS; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert Lee and Jean Helwig of Kansas City, MO and Lyle and Hester Helwig of Appleton City, MO; two sisters, Roberta Hurt of Overland Park, KS and Lydia Graham of Clinton, MO; 7 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary L. Wilson; and one granddaughter, Kimberly Wilson.
Charles was a truck driver for Safeway for 22 years before retiring in 1966. He was a member of the Smithville First Baptist Church. He had lived in Smithville most of his life.


Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 7, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be Monday, January 7, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery.
