CHARLES CHESTER RODGERS, JR.
Charles Chester Rodgers, Jr., 86, of Richmond, MO, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009, in Pleasant Hill, MO.
Mr. Rodgers was born August 13, 1922 in Henrietta, MO to Charles Chester and Charlene Agnes (Whitmer) Rodgers. He married Mildred Sheets of Richmond on March 3, 1946; she survives, of the home.
Other survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Larry Wayne and Susan Lile Rodgers of Evansville, IN; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy Ann and Dan Donovan of Pleasant Hill, MO; one brother, Frank Rodgers of Pleasant Valley, MO; one sister, Madeline Weathington of Richmond; six grandchildren and their spouses, Chad amd Cammy Rodgers, Kimberly and Jim Stoltz, Chris Rodgers, Justin and Jennifer Wyse, Ryan and Jennifer Wyse, and Deanna and Tim Miller; and nine great-grandchildren, Christian, Hunter, Bryan, Lynzee, Megan, Parker, Tyler, Madison and Jackson.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Adeline Bryant and Faye Andreas.
Mr. Rodgers worked for Ford Motor Company for 20 years before retiring in 1985. He was co-owner of Rodger and Lee Construction, and also co-owner of Santa Fe Glass. He was a 1942 graduate of Richmond High School. He had lived in Richmond most of his life. He was a member of the Richmond First Baptist Church and the Richmond Masonic Lodge #57. He had served on the Richmond School Board for 2 terms from 1968 to 1973.
He was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Crossroads Hospice or the Lawson Manor.
Funeral services will be Saturday, April 4, at 11:00 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, MO. Visitation will be Saturday, April 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, MO. Burial will be at Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond, MO, where military graveside services will be conducted by American Legion Post #237 and Richmond VFW Post #4398. Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, MO is in charge of the arrangements.
