Daniel "Danny" Lee Crook, 69, of Richmond, died Monday, December 3, 2018, at Shangri-La Rehab & Living Center in Blue Springs.
Danny was born on December 18, 1948, in Excelsior Springs, to Asa Jewell and Charline (Penniston) Crook. He was united in marriage to Barbara Elaine Vassar, of Richmond, on June 7, 1985. She preceded him in death on February 8, 2010.
Survivors include: one daughter, Lisa (Zachary) Conner of Higginsville; two step-sons, Chris (Evelyn) MacDonald of Mesa, AZ, and Matt (Jessica) MacDonald of Lake Jackson, TX; two brothers, Wayne (Jene) Crook of Marshall and Paul (Jan) Crook of Hardin; one sister, Doreen (Jay) McFee of Hardin; and eight grandchildren: Christian (Rachel) Turner, Jordan Turner, Abigail MacDonald, Jacob MacDonald, Cole Conner, Zachary Conner, Jr., Carmen Conner, and Ayden Conner.
In addition to his wife and parents, Danny was preceded in death by one son, Steven Lee Crook.
Danny was reared and educated in Hardin and graduated in 1966. Danny proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the Army, during Vietnam. Danny was a gifted mechanic and could work on anything. Danny's work history, including working for Lyon Implement in Richmond, Knopke Brothers Contractor Supply, which became Hertz Rental Equipment, where he retired from. Danny was a gun man who loved building guns, collecting guns, and anything to do with guns. He loved participating in attending Rendezvous with his buddies. He liked to take the family camping, especially when his grandkids came along. He enjoyed going to Hawaii, especially visiting Pearl Harbor where he got to see the USS Missouri. Danny was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hardin.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the American Brain Tumor's Association or Saint Jude's Hospital for children. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street - P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with Rev. Chris Cox to officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home. Inurnment will be in Richmond Memory Gardens, with full Military honors to be provided by the United States Army and the Ray County Veterans.
