DANNY LEE MARRIOTT
Danny Lee Marriott, 67, of Excelsior Springs, MO, entered his heavenly home at 3:45 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2013, at his home, surrounded by his wife and children.
Danny was born March 3, 1946 in Excelsior Springs, MO to Daniel Lee and Eula Calfee Marriott. He attended grade school at Sunnyside School near Elkhorn and grew up going to Rock Falls Baptist Church. He participated in football and wrestling at Excelsior Springs High School graduating in 1964. After graduation, Danny joined the United States Air Force and proudly served from 1964-1968 in Great Falls, Montana. He returned to his hometown of Excelsior Springs and began working at the Ford Assembly Plant in Claycomo, MO and raised his family. He had a spirit of adventure and enjoyed traveling. He was active in the Pisgah Baptist Church serving in various capacities. Danny was always busy and believed in being productive in life. He liked working on the family farm where he was raised and loved the outdoors. He appreciated the beauty of God's creation and the blessing of living on the farm. Danny enjoyed camping and in recent years and had become an avid hunter. He liked to entertain family and friends with hayrides and wiener roasts. Every fall it was routine for him to make ready the picnic area and have the tractors and wagons ready for the hayride season.
In 1981, Danny joined the Air Guard and served in Security Police at Rosecrans in St. Joseph, MO. He retired from the guard as Master Sergeant in 1998. In December of 1999, Danny also retired from Ford after 31 years of employment. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Union Local #249. A few months later he went to work as a driver for Ray County Transportation in Richmond, MO and for the last 8 ½ years had enjoyed working as a maintenance mechanic at the Excelsior Springs Job Corp. Danny touched many lives there and was a positive influence on his co-workers as well as the students he mentored.
In June 2006, Danny married his best friend Nancy (Kincaid) Derstler. In their 7 ½ years together they made many memories and did a lot of traveling. He served as Sunday School Director and usher and most recently as a Sunday school teacher at the First Baptist Church of Hardin, MO where he was a member. He had a great love for the Lord and truly a servant's heart. Danny had a passion for living and found his purpose in serving others. Danny also enjoyed his membership in the KCCA Corvette Club in North Kansas City, MO
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Nancy. Other survivors are his children, Darren (Jill) Marriott, Kansas City, MO, Nikki Marriott, Kansas City, MO., Angel Derstler, Platte City, MO, Kenicia (Brad) Ahart, Kingston, MO, Lindsay Evans, Bogard, MO and Kyle Derstler, Overland Park, KS, three grandsons, Drew (Kirstin) Marriott, Liberty, MO, Dylan Marriott and Canten Marriott, Kansas City, MO, one granddaughter, MaKenna Evans, and two great-granddaughters, Clara and Anna Marriott.
Danny is also survived by two sisters and one brother-in-law, Claudene (Gene) Parman, and Fern Miller, Excelsior Springs, MO, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dale (Maggie) Marriott and Brad (Robin) Marriott, Excelsior Springs, MO. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gordon Moore, one brother-in-law, John Miller, and two nephews, Stephen Parman and Kenny Moore.
The family suggests memorial contributions to be made to the Hardin First Baptist Church or Camp Quality Greater KC, 434 NE Station Dr., Lee's Summit, MO.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013, at the Pisgah Baptist Church, Excelsior Springs, MO. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Monday, December 23, 2013 at the church prior to services. Military honors will be provided by the Ray County Veterans.
