Obituary

Darwin Ray Outersky, 88, of Richmond, passed away Monday, November 4, 2024, at Oak Ridge Assisted Living in Richmond.

Darwin was born on April 8, 1936, on his family farm, near Richmond, the son of Joseph and Eula (Lee) Outersky.  He was united in marriage to Sadie Louise Clevenger of Richmond on April 9, 1954, the day after his 18th birthday; she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: son, Mike Outersky (Sheila Kennedy) of Richmond; daughter, Sandra (John) Williams of Richmond; six grandchildren: Misti (Jeremy) Holloway, Marcie Outersky, Robert (Carleigh) Williams, Stephanie (Jeff) Boguskie, Katrina (Mike) Manning, and Trinity Hall (Layton Claypole); and 12 great-grandchildren: Maddox Holloway, Kiley Gaulden, Autumn Stevens, Lynlee Stevens, Parker Williams, Jocie Williams, Walker Williams, Kameryn Williams, Isabella Smith, Brady Boguskie, Paxton Hall-Manning, Maverick Manning, and two on-the-way.

In addition to his parents, Darwin was preceded in death by his daughter, Anita Fay Hall, two brothers, Joe Wallace Outersky and Maurice Wayne Outersky, and an infant sister.

Darwin was raised and educated in the area of his birth, beginning his schooling at Dale-Patton Country School in Swanwick and later attending Richmond High School. A gifted carpenter, builder, and developer, Darwin made a lasting mark on Ray County with many of its beautiful homes built by his own hands. His dedication to his craft also extended to his work on the Rayville Christian Union Church, where his skill is reflected in the additions he helped create.

Alongside his building legacy, Darwin embraced the farming lifestyle. He enjoyed raising cutting horses and registered Limousin cattle, taking pride in his work with both. An avid outdoorsman, Darwin loved quail and pheasant hunting, often accompanied by his German Shorthaired Pointers, which he bred and raised. His love of the land was something he shared wholeheartedly with his family, passing down his knowledge, skills, and passion for outdoor life. Darwin's family holds many cherished memories of working and spending time with him, learning from his expertise and enthusiasm.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Rayville Christian Union Church or Shirkey Hospice.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Visitation with funeral services will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, with visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M., with services to follow at 2:00 P.M.  Interment will be held in Richmond Memory Gardens.  Please remember to share your memories of Darwin with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
