DENNIS EUGENE BROWN
Dennis Eugene Brown, 63, of Kansas City, MO, died Friday, October 21, 2016 from injuries sustained in a farming accident.
Dennis was born on August 14, 1953, the son of Orville Glen and Eva Nadine (Maynard) Brown of Orrick, MO. He was united in marriage to Dr. Lillian Catherine Alderman on November 28, 1992. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: two sons, Dennis Scott Brown of Orrick and George Jackson Brown of the home. One sister, Sherri Riddell and her husband Richard of Independence, MO. He had a nephew, Adam (Amy) Riddell, and a niece, Beth Washburn, of whom he was very proud. Dennis also had many cousins and was especially close to Terry Stockton.
Dennis was preceded in death by his parents.
Dennis was raised and educated in Orrick and graduated from the Orrick High School in 1971 and was very active in sports. Dennis then attended Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, where he received his Master's in education. He then returned to Orrick and taught sixth grade, while teaching he worked on and received his Education Specialist Degree from the University of Missouri Kansas City. While teaching at Orrick, he became the Elementary Principal and was principal for 12 years.
In 1994, Dennis accepted a position at the Lawson Middle School, where he designed and taught the gifted program. He retired from the Lawson School District in 2000.
Dennis was also a lifetime farmer on the family farm in Orrick and had expanded his farming to Ray, Clay and Lafayette counties at various times.
Dennis was known for his love of animals, and strays could always find a home with him. He loved playing cards at Jerry Smith's house. He enjoyed fishing, hunting morel mushrooms and going to the casino. He was a lifelong Democrat and a member of the Orrick Lions Club.
Dennis especially enjoyed farming.
He was always fair to everyone and extremely honest.
He had survived a previous crushing accident at the farm and beat Stage 4 non-Hodgkin's lymphoma twice.
Dennis was immensely proud of his sons: Scott followed in his footsteps on the farm, and George as a teacher.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Humane Society.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
