DIXIE L. VanOSTER
Dixie L. VanOster, 73, of Orrick, MO died at 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, December 1, 2013 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Dixie was born on September 20, 1940 in Kansas City, MO to Earl Thomas and Olive Irene (Wohlgemuth) McKown. She married Raymond E. VanOster of Orrick, MO on July 18, 1959. He survives of the home.
Additional survivors include; 2 daughters, Rosa D. Shirley and her husband, Eugene of Camden, MO and Tamri R Bayer of Lawson, MO; 3 brothers, Tommy Mckown of Smithville, MO, Gary McKown and his wife, Brenda of Excelsior Springs, MO and Rick McKown of Kansas City, MO; 5 sisters and 3 brothers-in-law, Beverly Hutchings of Orrick, MO, Karen McKown of Excelsior Springs, MO, Sandy and Tom Waters of Orrick, MO, Joyce and Bud Stockton of Orrick, MO and Sherry and Shannon Lutjen of Cole Camp, MO; four grandchildren and their spouses, Dana and Jim Cravens, Paul and Jandy Shirley, Tina and Devin Creason and Austin T. Findley; and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to her parents, Dixie was preceded in death by 4 brothers, Ronald, John, Danny and Gerald Mckown. She was also preceded in death by 1 sister, Geraldine McKown.
Dixie worked in the housekeeping department at the Gilmore Bosch Company in Excelsior Springs, MO for thirty-seven years, retiring in 2007. She was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local #13. She was a member of the Fleming Baptist Church. She was a member of the Ray-Clay Radio Club. She lived most of her life in the Orrick area.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Liberty Cancer Center or to Crossroads Hospice.

Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will be at a later date.
