Rev. Donald Richard "Don" Smith, 76, of Gladstone and formally of all the communities he served in his ministry went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 10, 2020 at his home.
Don was born on May 27, 1944 in Los Angeles, California, the son of Francis Donald and Minnie Maude (Harris) Smith. He was united in marriage to Sharon Josette "Cherie" Cleveland of Lawson on July 4, 1992; she preceded him death on July 30, 2015.
Survivors include: three daughters, Stephanie Renee' Forcier of Gladstone, Lindsay Erin Smith of Kansas City and Michelle Josette Cleveland of North Kansas City; two sons, Bret Aaron (Sara) Cleveland of Weatherby Lake and Michael Wayne (Kera) Cleveland of Aargau, Switzerland; five grandchildren: Anastasia Marie Holland, Breanna Josette Holland, Isaac Richard Garcia, Paul Leoben Fournier and Vienne Fournier; one great granddaughter, Kleopatra Wright and his ex-wife and friend Barbra Jeane Smith.
He was preceded in death by both parents, wife and half-brother, Lester Keith Burnes.
Pastor Don was a graduate of the Oklahoma City University. After graduating from college, he attended St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City. After seminary, he served as Pastor of the United Methodist Churches in the cities of College Heights, Westport, Meadowbrook, Lawson, and Richmond. He was a loving husband, Father and Grandfather; a steadfast friend and community leader. He loved fishing and college football. He will be dearly missed by all of his parishioners.
The family suggests in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Good Shepherd Outreach Fund, 4947 NE Chouteau Drive, Kansas City, Missouri 64119.
Private family memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, in Kansas City. Inurnment will be at a later date. Future memorial services will be held for the public at later date with location to be announced. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
