Dorothy Florence (Linville) Butts, 83, of Norborne, MO, mother to one, Mimi to three, Great Mimi to one, loving and caring to family and friends, kind and compassionate to all, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 17, 2022, at Carroll House in Carrollton, MO.
Dorothy was born on December 21, 1938, near Norborne and was the daughter of Daniel Lewis and Mary Ellen (Pierce) Linville. As a child, she lived on the family farm north of Norborne and graduated from Norborne High School in 1956. After high school, she moved to Kansas City, MO and began what would be an over 35 year career at Business Men's Assurance Company. While working at BMA she met the love of her life, Edward Eugene "Eddie" Butts of Lenexa, KS and was married August 30, 1958. During their working years the couple lived in Lenexa, Overland Park and Olathe, KS and were devoted members of the Lenexa United Methodist Church. In 1997, they fulfilled their dream of building a home and moving back to the family farm in Norborne. After moving back "home" the couple were members of the Carrollton United Methodist Church. Throughout her life, Dorothy participated in numerous church groups, enjoyed volunteering and collecting & refinishing antiques.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include: son, Daniel Edward (Cathy) Butts of Overland Park, KS; three grandchildren: Lauren Elizabeth Butts of Ithaca, NY, William Edward (Jillian) Butts of Spring Hill, KS, and Robert Andrew (Rachel) Butts of Virginia Beach, VA; great-grandson, William Edward Butts, Jr.; sister, Doris Jean (David) Beebe of Norborne, MO; sister and brother in-laws: Lou (Butts) & Lee Wilson of Lenexa, KS and Amy (Butts) Roberts of Olathe, KS; extended family: Jody and Brent Falke, Carrollton, MO.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Carrollton or Norborne United Methodist Churches, H E L P Services of Carrollton, or the Alzheimer's Association. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, January 24, 2022, at Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne, MO. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Norborne United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Fairhaven Cemetery, Norborne, MO.
