Douglas August "Doug" Koch, 84, of Richmond, died Wednesday, November 16, 2022, surrounded by his loving family, at his home.
Doug was born on June 22, 1938, in Raytown, the son of Henry "Hank" and Anna Koch. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Clevenger of Kansas City on June 14, 1963; she preceded him in death on September 21, 2017.
Survivors include: two sons, Michael Koch of Richmond, and Robert W. (Cindy) Hoover of Raytown; two daughters, Marilyn O'Dell of Richmond, and Denna Casey of Lathrop; 15 grandchildren: Michaela (Luke) Clark, Michael Koch, Aaron (Brooke) O'Dell, Derek O'Dell, Skylar (Jessica) O'Dell, Dustin (Kristy) Hash, Daniel (Lindsey) Hash, Delaney (Tim) Sandstrom, Bobby (Melissa) Hoover, II, Sylvia Hoover, Karissa Hoover, Nathan Hoover, Ashley Hoover, Talia Hoover and Mark Hoover; and 31 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, Bill Koch, and sister, Francis Bunger.
Doug was reared and educated in Raytown and moved to the Richmond area in 1974. He worked as a plumber, owned, and operated a farm, and hauled water in the Richmond area. Doug was best known as owner and operator of Koch Dog and Hunting Supply, located south of Richmond on Highway T. Koch Supply was more than just a place to purchase dog and outdoor supplies, it was a place for hunters and outdoorsman to tell tall stories and find out what was going on around the area. Doug and his wife, Mary Lou, enjoyed breakfast at McDonald's and going to the casino. He loved to play poker and craps. Most of all, he loved his family and all their get-togethers. Doug loved telling stories. He was a member of the Richmond First Baptist Church, where he attended regularly with his daughter, Marilyn.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Visitation, Masonic Services, and Memorial Services will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022, at the Richmond First Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M., with a Masonic service at 1:45 P.M., followed by memorial services at 2:00 P.M.
