DWIGHT JOHNSON (JOHN) CROUCH

Dwight Johnson (John) Crouch, 68, of Richmond, MO, died on Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at his residence.
John was born on February 5, 1946 in Kansas City, MO to Melvin L. and Rebecca Johnson Crouch. He married Nancy A. Fletcher of Richmond on August 7, 1986; she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include one daughter, LeChelle Williams of Richmond; two step- sons, Scott Fletcher and his significant other Jessica O?Connell and Jason Minnick and his significant other, Bridget Duncan of Smithville, MO; one step-daughter, Carisa Minnick and her significant other, Marcus Shores of Richmond; 7 grandchildren, Jacob Williams, Gavin Williams, Lottie Fletcher, Gabriel O?Connell, Trystin Minnick, Blake Minnick and Tyler Minnick; and one daughter-in-law, Amy Minnick of Smithville, MO.
John worked for the United States Post Office as a postal carrier for 29 years before retiring in 1992. He had also worked for the Ray County Sheriff?s Department as a deputy for 11 years. He also served as Ray County Eastern Commissioner for 5 years. He was a member of the Richmond Masonic Lodge #57 A.F. and A.M. and the Ray County Historical Society. He was of the Baptist faith. John was a well-known local area historian whose knowledge of Ray County from the first Native American inhabitant?s, to the first settlers, to our local Civil War history was vast. He had contributed items to the Ray County Museum and was instrumental in the Ray County Historical Society. He had lived in Richmond most of his life.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ray County Historical Society.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, November 17, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be Monday, November 17, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. where a masonic service will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at a later date.
