Obituary

Edwin "Lloyd" Koontz, 99, of Norborne, MO, passed away September 21, 2023.

Lloyd was born October 30, 1923, north of Norborne, to John T. and Cora B. (Scheible) Koontz.  He attended Prairie View School and graduated from Norborne High School in 1942.   He married the love of his life, Mildred Dorner on September 15, l946, at the Methodist Parsonage in Bogard. They were blessed with a daughter Janell and a son Troy.

He farmed his entire life, starting at an early age with horses on their family farm with his Dad and brothers.   Later he and his brother Ralph not only helped one another farm but spent numerous nights sitting in their pickups listening to their foxhounds run.  He was always willing to lend a helping hand to others whenever or whatever the need.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and the Braymer Fox Hunt since 1946 serving as secretary and a judge at the Braymer hunt, other area hunts and state hunts for many years.  Along with fox hunting he enjoyed deer and coon hunting, fishing, bowling, and card playing.  Later in years he enjoyed feeding and watching the birds and squirrels and gardening where he and Mildred willingly shared produce from their large garden with family, neighbors, and friends.  He also enjoyed sports, participating in softball where he played third base (the only position they would allow him to play) for the Rockingham team.  Until moving to Norborne in the Freedom Retirement apartments in October 2015, he had lived his entire life within one mile.

Survivors include daughter Janell Wright of Springfield, MO, son Troy Allen of Springfield, MO, grandchildren Rebecca (Daniel) Amborne of Eden Prairie, MN, Micheal Koontz and Johnathon Lloyd Koontz of Springfield, MO and great granddaughters Carmyn and Katherine Koontz and great grandsons Nathaniel and Ollie Amborne and Junior Koontz and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mildred, brothers Ralph E. Koontz, Earl T. Koontz, Dale E. (Dude) Koontz, sisters Mary Eliza (Jane) Wood, Helen L. Costner, Nora D. Fairchild, granddaughter Angela Paulette Kruger, grandson Nathaniel Caleb Kruger, and son-in-law Kenneth Kruger.
