EDWARD LEE SWAFFORD
Edward Lee Swafford, 81, of Richmond, MO died Wednesday, December 13, 2017 at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, KS.
Ed was born on April 28, 1936 in Elkhorn, MO to James Grover and Marie (Shaw) Swafford. He married Lois J. Dooley of Millville, MO on August 30, 1958. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2013.
Survivors include; two daughters, Carol Y. Williams of Richmond and Jennie Sue Sloan of Virginia Beach, VA; one sister, Joanne O'Dell of Richmond; 7 grandchildren, Lindsay Williams, Alisha Williams, Ed Sloan, Derek Sloan, Justine Whitworth, Courtney Howerton and Selena Howerton; 12 great-grandchildren, Tuff Harris, Tayla Williams, Estelle Williams, Cody Harris, Mackenzie Harris, Lane Harris, Griffen Harris, Abigail Sloan, Madison Sloan, Landon Sloan, Conner Sloan and Evan Sloan; and two sisters-in-law, Rose Swafford of Richmond and Patricia Misel of Cowgill, MO.
In addition to his parents and wife, Ed was preceded in death by one daughter who died in infancy; one brother, Charles Austin Swafford; and one sister, Marilyn Sue Roney.
Ed was a graduate of the Lawson High School. He was retired Army National Guard after serving 40 years. Ed worked for Swafford Ford for 17 years in Richmond. He was well known for his work for the City of Richmond where he had served as City Clerk, on the City Council, Mayor for two terms and served as interim City Administrator. Ed was a very active community member who loved Richmond. He especially enjoyed coon hunting with his family and friends. He was very family oriented. Ed was currently a member of the Henrietta Baptist Church. For many years the family attended the Church of God in Richmond where he served in many roles in the church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Ward Chapel AME Church in Richmond or to the Henrietta First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Henrietta First Baptist Church. Visitation will be Monday, December 18, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Henrietta First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO where military honors will be provided by the Ray County Veterans.
