Edwin Lee ?Eddie? Essig, 76, of Excelsior Springs, MO died Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, MO.
Eddie was born on December 18, 1937 in Tarkio, MO to Glen and Sylvia (Adams) Essig. He married Dorothy Coats of Elkhorn, MO on November 2, 1968; she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include three daughters, Janet Hessenflow of Gladstone, MO, Diana Adams of Richmond, MO and Kathy Essig of Boston, MA; one brother, David and Laveta Essig of St. Joseph, MO; 5 grandchildren and their spouses, Chris and Rachael Hessenflow, Ryan Hessenflow, Ethan and Allie Essig, Courtney and Danny Sisson and Natalie and Ryan Eastley; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by one son, Richard E. ?Rick? Essig; one brother, Charles Essig; and one son-in-law, Jeffery R. ?Puff? Adams.
Eddie was a diesel mechanic for Westfall GMC Truck for 43 years before retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Machinist Union Local # 778. He had lived in Excelsior Springs area most of his life. Eddie was a member of the Rock Falls Baptist Church. He loved to hunt, fish and farm.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Rock Falls Baptist Church or the Crossroads Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Rock Falls Baptist Church in Elkhorn, MO. Visitation will be Thursday, October 9, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, MO. Burial will be in the O?Dell Cemetery near Orrick, MO.
