ELIZABETH ELLEN (BETTY) LETZIG

Elizabeth Ellen (Betty) Letzig, 85, of Richmond, MO, passed away on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at the Shirkey Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, MO, surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born on December 17, 1924, in Carlton, NE to Herbert and Mary Belle (Walker) Wittenberger. She married Robert W. Letzig of Hardin, MO on August 9, 1946; he survives of the home.
Additional survivors include, one son and daughter-in-law, John Letzig and his wife Beth of Richmond, MO; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Roberta Kris Jenkins and her husband Bob of Rich Hill, MO and Lori E. Callow and her husband, Alan of Weston, MO; eight grandchildren, Trevor Jenkins, Sarah Jenkins, Melissa Jenkins, Michael Letzig and his wife Holly, Lindsey Letzig Wilson and her husband Matt, Darren Letzig, Cortney McIntyre and her fiancé Daniel Trent and Wade Callow; one great grandchild, Nolan McIntyre-Trent, brother-in-law, Louie Bunting, three sisters-in-law, Betty Jean Letzig, Suz Letzig and Leola Wittenberger.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three brothers, Herbert, John and Jerry Wittenberger: two sisters, Helen Michaels and Marjorie Bunting and one brother-in-law, Richard Michaels.
Betty graduated from high school in Carlton, Nebraska; she then attended nursing school at the University of Nebraska in Omaha. Betty was a registered nurse working at a hospital in Topeka, KS, where she would meet her husband to be, a World War II veteran, who had returned from Europe with injuries. Betty and Robert would enjoy 63 years of marriage. Betty had worked for the Ray County Hospital and Ray County Home Health. Betty was an active member of her church, belonging to the ladies circle, the church choir and bell choir. She was member of the Richmond P.E.O, the Shirkey Golf Club & Shirkey Golf Club Ladies Auxiliary.
The family suggests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers be made to the United Methodist Church, Richmond, MO or the Shirkey Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Richmond, MO.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the United Methodist Church, Richmond, MO. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 1, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Richmond, MO. Private family inurnment will be at later date in the Richmond Memory Gardens, Richmond, MO. Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, MO is in charge of the arrangements.
