Elmer Eugene Curtner, 88, of Richmond, died Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Elmer was born on January 19, 1932, in Richmond, the son of John W. and Dora L. (Brock) Curtner, Sr. He was united in marriage to Glenda Mae Groom of Excelsior Springs on October 3, 1965; she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include: daughter, Nancy (Brian) Allenbrand of Kansas City; and two grandchildren, Derrick Max Allenbrand and Katherine Cherie Allenbrand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John W. Curtner, Jr., and two sisters, Ruby L. Hines and Dorothy E. Cox.
Elmer was reared in Richmond and attended the Missouri School for the Deaf in Fulton. Elmer first farmed for 30 years. He then moved to town, where he worked as a custodian and in the kitchen at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond from 1978 to 2005. Elmer was a hard worker; always working. "No job is worth doing, if you're not going to do it right." He was a little bit of a practical joker, teaser, and enjoyed making people laugh. Elmer always greeted his family with a hug and a kiss on the cheek. He was a well-loved member of the Richmond First Baptist Church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Richmond First Baptist Church. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Visitation with memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2020, at the Richmond First Baptist Church, with visitation beginning at 1:00 P.M., with services to follow at 2:00 P.M.
