ELWYN B. GRIFFIN
Elwyn B. Griffin, 90, of Richmond, MO died Tuesday, March 24, 2015 at his home.
Elwyn was born on October 24, 1924 in Millville, MO to Robert J. and Ethel Mae (Shumate) Griffin. He married Emma V. James of California, MO on January 29, 1955. She preceded him in death on December 16, 2004.
Survivors include one son and one daughter-in-law, Elwyn Buryl and Donna Griffin of Richmond; five daughters and two sons-in-law, Doris June Miller of Peculiar, MO, Mary Carmen Casey of Columbus, KS, Helen Elizabeth Lewellen of Malone, TX, Regina Mae and Sam Conner of Independence, MO and Robin Faye and Robert Hood of North Kansas City, MO; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, James and Norma McCubbin of Lawson, MO and Charles and Bonnie McCubbin of Lawson; one sister, Mary Frances Reynolds of Richmond; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.
In addition to his parents and wife, Elwyn was preceded in death by one son, William Preston McCleary III, one brother, Ellis Griffin; one sister, Dorothy Lee Tackett; and one granddaughter, Ashley.
Elwyn lived in Polo most of his life before moving to Richmond in 1977. Elwyn worked for the City of Richmond and retired in 1991. He was also a farmer. He was a United States Army Veteran of WWII, receiving 5 bronze stars. He was also a United States Army Veteren of the Korean War. Elwyn was a member of the Richmond VFW Post #4398 and the Richmond American Legion Post #237. He was a member of the Bethel Christian Union Church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Disabled Veterans.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 27, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Bethel Cemetery south of Polo, MO where military honors will be provided by the Ray County Veterans.
