Ernest "Ernie" Lee Coss, 83, of Richmond, died Monday, January 21, 2019, at North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City, MO.

Ernie was born on May 8, 1935, in Wathena, KS, the son of Leo and Margaret (Reeves) Coss.  He was united in marriage to Catherine Jo Hume, of Riverside, on September 3, 1988.  She preceded him in death on June 8, 2018.

Survivors include: two daughters: Frances "Fran" M. Lauf of Richmond and Patricia Sue Couldry of St. Joseph; one son: Ernie Jo Coss of St. Joseph; 4 grandchildren: Michael Joyce, Christopher Hughes, Jennifer Lauf, and Carol Lauf; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

Ernie was reared and educated in Gower.  He enjoyed growing up on a farm and always loved farming.  Ernie worked for Farmland Industries in North Kansas City, MO, as a truck driver for 30 years and retired in 2001.  He was a member of the Dockery Baptist Church.  He had an ornery streak and liked to give people a hard time, jokingly.  He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fishing, and country music.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Dockery Baptist Church or the Dockery Cemetery.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street - P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
