FLOYD BRUCE SUMMA
Floyd Bruce Summa, 65, of Rayville, MO, died at 10:55 p.m., Sunday, September 11, 2011, at his home, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Mr. Summa was born January 27, 1946 in Hollister, CA to Lionel George and Artela Viola (Lowery) Summa. He married Barbara Rose Eckery of Ravenwood, MO on June 2, 1968; she survives, of the home.
Other survivors include three sons and two daughters-in-law, Bruce Allen and Julie Ann Summa of Lathrop, MO, Chad Wayne and Mary Allison Summa of Moberly, MO and Jason Ryan Summa of Rayville; one daughter, Jelena Shell Schake of Independence, MO; three brothers and three sisters-in-law, Gerald and Bonnie Summa of Mount Ayr, IA, Vern and Evelyn Summa of Maryville, MO and Clyde and Judy Summa of Council Bluff, IA; and six grandchildren. He left behind a childhood friend, Gerald Smith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Virginia "Nin" Eckery.
Mr. Summa was a mainframe programmer for Sprint Corporation for seven years. He had worked for Sony for 10 years and at the Capital Building in Jefferson City, MO. He had also worked as an engine technician for Sears. He was a member of the Richmond Christian Chapel and had lived in the Rayville area for the past 23 years.
He was a Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam Era and was a member of the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the St. Jude's Hospital for Children or Relay for Life.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 15, at 1:30 p.m. at the Ravenwood Christian Church in Ravenwood, MO. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 14, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, MO. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Ravenwood, MO with Military Honors. Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, MO is in charge of the arrangements.
