GEORGE OWEN HARPER
George Owen Harper, 72, of Richmond, MO died at 3:15 p.m. on Friday, April 23, 2010 at the North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, MO.
Owen was born on August 10, 1937 near Harper, MO to Robert Otha and Eula (Wood) Harper. He married Patsy R. Umphfrey of Richmond on February 22, 1985. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include; four sons and two daughters-in-law, George O. Harper, Jr. of Osceola, MO, William Harper of Osceola, John Owen and Renea Harper of Kansas City, KS, and David and Ruth Umphfrey of Wellington, MO; three daughters, Diane Umphfrey Decker of Richmond, Barbara Harper of Osceola, and Debra Harper of Osceola; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Leroy Harper of Osceola, Otha J. and Virginia Harper of Lee's Summit, MO, Paul and Marolyn Harper of Kansas City, MO; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Opal and Claude Crowl of Quincy, MO, and Zelpha Maupin of Kansas City, MO ; ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren also survive.
In addition to his parents, Owen was preceded in death by one brother, Leslie Harper and one sister, Edna Harper who died in infancy.
Owen was a 1955 graduate of Osceola, MO High School. He was an Iron Worker for the Iron Worker's Union Local #10 in Kansas City, MO for thirty-seven years before retiring in 1997. He also was a farmer. He was of the Baptist faith. He moved to Richmond in 1974.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Keith Worthington Chapter for ALS or to the Grandchildren's Education Fund.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Lavelock Cemetery near Hardin, MO. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
