GEORGE D. PHILLIPS
George D. Phillips, 97, of Richmond, MO died Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at his home.
George was born in a log cabin near Holt, MO on January 30, 1920 to Robert and Della (Tabor) Phillips. He was their only child. George married Pauline (Richardson) of Osborn, MO on February 2, 1941. She preceded him in death on February 23, 2015.
Survivors include; 5 nephews, Jack, John and Dan Richardson, Dean and Gene Teaney; 3 nieces, Nancy Ver Hagen, Maryanne Lanzarotta and Beverly Massey; his cousins, Buddy Robeson, Charlene Welsh and John Duncan; and many, many friends.
In addition to his parents and wife, George was preceded in death by his son, Richard Phillips who died in an automobile accident on December 14, 1970 at the age of 20 while attending college.
After their marriage, George and Pauline started off farming in the Holt, MO area. They established a dairy operation and picked up farm produce which they sold at the Kansas City Farmer's Market. Afterwards George worked for Farmland Industries and Ray-Carroll Grain Grower Association. Next he developed two real estate subdivisions and worked as a contract home builder. He later owned a home rental property business.
Although George and Pauline where always busy and hard worker's, they took time to relax, refresh and enjoyed quality time as a loving couple. They traveled extensively including all the states of our country including; Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico and Canada. George was and will be remembered as a loving husband, and a caring and good hearted person. He was a former member of the Richmond Rotary Club. He was a Deacon of the Richmond First Baptist Church.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Richmond First Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be Monday, June 26, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens.
