Obituary

George Victor Robinson, 72, of Richmond, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, surrounded by his loving children.  George was born January 22, 1953, in Richmond. The son of Cordell and LouEllen (Fields) Robinson.

George's survivors include his children who he was extremely PROUD of, his only son Josh (Ashley) Robinson, two daughters, Melissa and Amy Robinson: 7 grandchildren, Nate Pugh, Kaiyah Dooley, Ethan Robinson, Jaidyn Robinson, Aaliyah Anderson, Adalynne and Nevaeh Robinson with a great granddaughter Breezly Kuehling.  His three sisters, Genevieve Johnson, Mildred Wilson and Valerie Bigby along with his brothers Matt Fields, Larry Fields, Michael Robinson, Rob Robinson and Zack Millentree and many nieces and nephews, along with extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dalton and William Robinson.

George was raised in Richmond and was a graduate of the 1973 class and will be inducted into the Richmond Spartan Athletic Hall of Fame for earning All-State Honorable Mention honors as a running back in 1971 and was named All-District and All-Conference in both 1971 and 1972, reflecting his consistency and impact as a top-tier performer.  He will be inducted in to the Richmond Spartan Athletic Hall of Fame in June this year.

George worked as a farm hand while in school, at Co-op, and dedicated over 30 years at the Ford Kansas City Assembly Plant where he carpooled back and forth with Mike Lewis and Keeven Buhrmeister who he considered brothers.  He was a Proud UAW Member as well. After his retirement from Ford and unable to sit idle he continued working as a janitor at Sunrise Elementary with his best friend Rick Swafford. On any given day you could find George doing what he most loved, fishing and hunting. George will be dearly missed by all who knew him, especially his children and grandchildren, who called him PaPa and brought him the greatest joy.

George knew no stranger and would speak to everyone. He was known to make all laugh and have them leave with a smile on their faces.  A memory they would forever cherish.  He wasn't one to be serious and absolutely loved making jokes.  He cared and shared everything he could, except for those hot fishing and hunting spots.  He truly was the best sportsman around. He was truly a jack of all trades to include sewing.  There wasn't anything he couldn't sew and fix.  He would cut grass as a pro, fix electrical and plumbing. He truly was a gift for all!! His smile and laugh are forever imbedded in the hearts of all.

He held the family's record for largest flat head and was a better fisherman than his son Josh and brother Michael.

The family will be starting a scholarship memorial fund in honor of George.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main St., P.O. Box 190, Richmond, 64085.
