Obituary

Georgia Bernice Goodman, 85, of Rayville, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Georgia was born on December 4, 1938, in Kansas City, the daughter of George E. and Mildred B. (Ludwig) Spangler.  She was united in marriage to Rev. Norman Brice Goodman of Rayville on June 8, 1957; he preceded her in death on October 23, 2020.

Survivors include: their three children: Julie (Rusty) Nelson of Rayville, Jeff (Joni) Goodman of Liberty, and Danny (Risa) Goodman of Rayville; eight grandchildren: Lindsey (Joseph) DeAngelo, Bradley (Ryan) Nelson, Michael (Jessica) Nelson, Brock (Sarah) Goodman, Evin Goodman, Amanda (Benjamin) St. Pierre, Aaron (Jordan) Goodman, and Adam (Hailey) Goodman; 19 great-grandchildren: Joey (Chloe), Ivy (Jude), Raymond, Noah, Izaiah, Raymond, Jesse, Tristan, Faith, Trinity, Mason, Elle, Crue, Vera, Jax, Grayson, Bowen, Asher, and Mila; three great-great-grandchildren: Georgia Mae, Selah, and Sabella Rose; many nephews, nieces, and cousins also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, Georgia was preceded in death by her infant son, Michael Lee Goodman, two sisters, Cheryl Williams and Larissa Blackwell, and great-great-grandson, Joseph Anthony DeAngelo, V.

Georgia was born and raised in Kansas City, where she attended and graduated from Northeast High School.  During her high school years, Georgia developed a passion for choir and dancing, she cherished her time as a member of her high school sorority and was honored with the title of Prom Queen her Senior year.

After marrying, Georgia devoted her life to raising her family, becoming a pillar of support in her husband's ministry work at St. Paul Christian Union Church, near Knoxville, where she found joy in teaching Sunday School.  Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, as she became a beloved figure to her grandchildren and many other children who affectionately called her "Grandma."  Known for her playful nature, Georgia was a bit of a prankster, always ready to bring a smile to someone's face.  She had a remarkable ability to see the good in everyone she met.

Georgia's faith was the cornerstone of her life. For years, she and Norman were members of the Rayville Christian Union Church.  She was currently a dedicated member of the Richmond Christian Chapel.  Her compassion knew no bounds; she frequently attended auctions, not for herself, but to make thoughtful purchases for others.

Her involvement in her community was evident through her active participation in PTA and 4-H, and she was an enthusiastic cheerleader for her family in all their endeavors.  Georgia was also a passionate supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs, never missing a chance to cheer on her favorite team.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to St. Jude's Hospital for Children, in honor of her great-granddaughter, Elle.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at the Richmond Christian Chapel.  Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond.  Interment will be in Crowley Cemetery, Rayville.  Please remember to share your memoires of Georgia with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
