Obituary

Gerald Stephen "Jerry" Garner, 64, of Richmond, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 4, 2019, at his residence.

Jerry was born on July 21, 1954, in Lexington, the son of James Alexander and Hilda (Rhodes) Garner.

Survivors include: his caregiver, Teresa Dunwoodie; aunt, Frances Wright; two step-brothers, Henry McKenzie and Kirk Hull; brother-in-law, Dan Bielefeldt; step-sister, Karla Hull; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, step-parents, three brothers, Kenneth Garner, Tim Garner, and Mike Garner, step-brother, Scott Anderson, and sister, Mira Garner.

Jerry was a custodian for the Federal Government and worked in the Parks and Recreation Department in Kansas City, until he retired.  He was a huge Chief and Royals fan and always decorated his Christmas tree with Chief's memorabilia and kept it up year round.  He enjoyed hunting and watching Westerns.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Autism Works, Inc. in Liberty.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
