GERALD E. SANDY

Gerald E. Sandy, 89, of Norborne, MO, died at 5:10 p.m., Monday, December 6, 2010 at Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Gerald was born March 8, 1921 in the Rockingham Community to Rawley S. and Angie A. (Kiem) Sandy. He married Patricia Jeanette Shirky of the Rockingham Community on March 11, 1960: she preceded him in death on February 23, 2005.
Other survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Julie and James Weisz of Norborne, MO and Elaine Newham of Norborne; one brother and sister-in-law, Elvin and Joan Sandy of Richmond; three sisters, Genevieve Herring of Norborne, Dorothy Kassen of Norborne and Imogene Buchanan of Richmond; one brother-in-law, Robert Shirky of Pahrump, NV; 4 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren and 7 step-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents and wife, Gerald was preceded by one brother, Stanley Sandy; one sister, Virginia Sandy; and one son-in-law, Terry Newham.
Gerald was a farmer and a self employed Carpenter. He was a member of the Bethany Church of the Brethern in Stet, MO. He had lived most of his life in the Rockingham area. He had been a member of the Hardin Central School Board and the Wakenda Cemetery Board. He was a member of the Red Raiders in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Wakenda Cemetery or Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.

Graveside services will be Thursday, December 9, at 10:00 a.m., at the Wakenda Cemetery north of Hardin. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 8, at 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne. Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne is in charge of the arrangements.
