GLADYS HALEY SHUMATE

Gladys H. Shumate, 92, of Richmond, MO, died at 11:50 p.m., on Friday, April 9, 2010, at the Shirkey Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.
Gladys was born on October 29, 1917 in Cowgill, MO to John and Mollie (Lile) Burns. She married Carl Shumate of Millville, MO on November 21, 1945; he preceded her in death on April 16, 1980.
Survivors include two sisters-in-law, Betty Burns of St. Joseph, and Helen Burns of Stet, MO; and many nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by four brothers, Virgil Burns, Russell Burns, Floyd Burns and Lee Roy Burns; and one sister, Goldy Burns; and one nephew, Lonnie Gene Burns.
Gladys was raised and educated in Carroll County, then lived most of her life in Ray County. Gladys was a homemaker and helped her husband on the farm. She was a past member of the New Hope United Methodist Church and currently a member of the Richmond Christian Chapel.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the New Hope Cemetery.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, MO. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 13, 2010 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond, MO. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery, north of Hardin, MO.
