HARVEY S. FINLEY
Harvey S. Finley, 99, of Hardin, MO, died at 5:20 a.m. on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, MO.
Harvey was born on April 9, 1912 near Tinney Grove, Mo to George A. and Sarah Elizabeth (Fifer) Finley. He married the love of his life, Ruby M. McNelly of Regal, MO on March 8, 1934. She preceded him in death on March 24, 1996. To this union, 5 children were born.
Survivors include; 4 sons and 3 daughters-in-law, George W. and Barbara Finley of Hardin, MO, Alva J. and Daveita Finley of Excelsior Springs, MO, Otto L. Finley of Norborne, MO, John and Barbara Finley of Norborne, MO, one daughter and son-in-law, Mary S. and Bob Willis of Carrollton, MO, 15 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Harvey was preceded in death by, 1 brother, Sam J. Finley, 2 sisters, Martha Caton, Eva Fitzwater, 2 grandchildren, Donnie Bob Finley and Karla Utley, 1 great grandson, Christopher Utley, 1 great-great granddaughter, Laura Finley and a daughter-in-law, Claudean Finley.
Harvey went to school at Tinney Grove, south of Braymer, MO, having to drop out of school when he was in the 5th grade, due to the death of his father. He spent his entire life farming and building and maintaining roads, working for the Regal, Tinney Grove and Ray County Road Districts. He was an excellent mechanic and machinist. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to a neighbor or friend. He loved to coyote and raccoon hunt. Harvey was a lifelong Ray County resident. He was a former school board member of the Tinney Grove School. He was of the Christian faith.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Wakenda Cemetery, Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center or it's Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 16, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 15, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 8;00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in Wakenda Cemetery, north of Hardin, MO.
