Henry Franklin Herring, 97, of Braymer, died Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Mosaic Life Care in St. Joseph.
Henry was born on September 12, 1925, in rural Carroll County, the son of Lawrence B. and Stella Grace (Wooden) Herring. He was united in marriage to Leona Bell Robison of rural Polo on May 7, 1949; she preceded him in death on February 10, 1996.
Survivors include: two sons, Eddie (Kimberly) Herring of Excelsior Springs and Denny (Connie) Herring of Braymer; daughter, Debbie Gardner of Chillicothe; 10 grandchildren: Josh (Ashley) Herring, Cody Herring, Jacob Herring, Michael Herring, Kevin Herring, Lance Herring (Rebecca Dare), Ryan (Deann) Gardner, Aaron (Skylar) Gardner, Brett (Alexis) Gardner, and Taylor Gardner; 15 great-grandchildren: Dalton Herring, Chase Herring, Kaden Herring, Caleigh Herring, Caleb Herring, Jack Herring, Brayden Herring, Jo Michael Herring, Max Herring, Brooklynn Herring, Brendan Gardner, Zoey Gardner, Aiden Gardner, Wesley Gardner, and Autumn Gardner; two sisters, Freida Ann Seig and Louise Herring-Kincaid; and daughter-in-law, Dayna A. Herring of Braymer
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son, Ronald Dean "Ronnie" Herring, two brothers, Russell Herring and Allen Herring, and son-in-law, Jeff Gardner.
Henry was reared and educated in the area of his birth and graduated from the Braymer High School in 1944. After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy, during the end of World War II. After the war, he returned to the area of his birth. Henry was a lifelong farmer in the Braymer area. He also hauled livestock for many of the area farmers. Henry loved to deer hunt and taught all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to hunt. He enjoyed fox hunting with hounds and loved to go to field trials. Henry also enjoyed taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren on 4-wheeler rides. He was of the Christian faith.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Henry Herring Memorial Fund, to be used toward an FFA Scholarship in Braymer. They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, February 11, 2023, at Braymer United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Braymer.
