HOWARD L. "LUCKY" PARKES

Howard L. "Lucky" Parkes, 81, of Richmond, MO died at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, January 10, 2011 at his home.
Howard was born on December 30, 1929 to Horace Milton and Lena Belle (Van Meter) Parkes. He married Doris Mae Abbas of Buffalo Center, IA on June 8, 1962. She survives of the home.
Additional survivors include two sons and two daughters-in-laws, Glen and Lucy Parkes of Richmond and Stephen and Mary Parkes of Richmond; and one brother Carmen Parkes of Richmond. Five grandchildren and two great granddaughters also survive.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by one brother, Horace "Gene" Parkes; and one step-son, Bruce Abbas.
Howard worked as a Postal Carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 25 years before retiring in 1989. He was of the Christian faith. He had lived most of his life in the Richmond area. He was a United States Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Howard L. Parkes memorial fund.


Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 13, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Higginsville, MO. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond is in charge of the arrangements.
