IVAN RHODES HOGAN

Ivan Rhodes Hogan, 89, of Hardin, MO died Tuesday, February 3, 2015 at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, MO.

Ivan was born on February 27, 1925 in Hardin to John Curtis and Vera Faye (Rodabaugh) Hogan. He married Maryanne Davis of Millville, MO on February 12, 1955. She preceded him in death on March 1, 2001.

Survivors include: one son and one daughter-in-law, John Bradley and Amy Hogan of Richmond; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jennifer Jon Hogan of Gladstone, MO and Stephanie and D.R. Landwehr of Richmond; and one grandson, John William Landwehr.

In addition to his parents and wife, Ivan was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne Hogan and Gwendle Hogan; and one sister Gwynneth Holloway.

Ivan grew up in the Rockingham and Hardin communities, where he attended Little Brick Elementary School. He graduated from Hardin High School in 1944. After graduation Ivan enlisted in the Army from 1944 to 1945. He served in the "Timberwolves" 104th Infantry Division and European theater where he was awarded two bronze stars and the Presidential Unit Citation. Ivan returned to Ray County after the war. He received the GI bill that allowed him to pursue his education at the University of Missouri in Columbia, where he studied in Agri-Business. He farmed a short time in the early 1950's and then began working for the Sinclair Gas Company. In 1955 he married Maryanne Davis. He worked for Sinclair through the mid 1950's, which required him to move to Sedalia, MO for approximately a year or so.

In 1957, Ivan accepted a position with Hardin Home Savings and Loan Association. He worked there for 33 years, until his retirement in February 1990. Ivan was a board member of the Missouri Savings and Loan League in the 1970's. He was president of the Missouri Savings and Loan League in 1974. He was elected Director of the Federal Home Loan Board in 1980, where he served several two year terms. He was named President of the Hardin Savings and Loan in 1981.

Ivan was a member of the Hardin United Methodist Church. He served on the church board and taught Sunday school class for over 40 years. In the mid 1960's, he served on the Hardin Central School Board. He was a member of the Ray County Hospital Board during the 1970's. Ivan was a member of the American Legion, Hardin Volunteer Fire Department and was serving on the Salvation Army Board and the Ray County Health Board.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the either the Ray County Salvation Army or to the Hardin Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hardin United Methodist Church in Hardin, MO. Visitation will be Friday, February 6, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will be in the Wakenda Cemetery, north of Hardin, MO where military honors will be provided by the Ray County Veterans.
