Obituary

J. Carol Wegeng Ruegg

Carol passed away April 5th, 2015 at the age of 80 at Westbrook Care Center, Kearney, Missouri.   She was born in Norborne, Missouri, the youngest of six children of William A. and Mary Susan (Hofmann) Wegeng.   Carol graduated from St. Mary College in Leavenworth, Kansas. She began her 30 year teaching career at Bishop Ward High School in Kansas City, Kansas where she taught English and Sewing. She later taught at Washington High School, was librarian at various Kansas schools and then finished her career by teaching night school at Donnelly College. She loved to sew and made much of her own clothing.

She met a wonderful man, Gene Ruegg, while riding the Kansas City Kansas bus and in June 1960 they married. They loved to travel Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona. They enjoyed tours of London, Ireland, Scotland, Germany, France and Italy.   Carol and Gene loved dogs. When Carol and Gene would visit her family, they always brought Jacque, their poodle to the farm in Norborne.   Carol's lovely white Bichon Frise named Molly passed away about a year ago.

Carol was an avid reader. She enjoyed her private room and the wonderful porch at Westbrook Care Center. Her favorite activity was sitting on the porch with friends and staff, people-watching and playing with the cats.

Carol is survived by her sister, Judith Wegeng Goetting and her sister-in-law Vanda Wegeng. She is also survived by over 20 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Gene, her brother Eldon Wegeng, her sisters Marjorie Gronniger, Rosemary Hockemeier and Elizabeth Backes.

The family extends their appreciation to the staff at Westbrook Care Center for their wonderful care of Carol.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norborne or to the Westbrook Care Center in Kearney.

A funeral mass will be held on Saturday April 11, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norborne. Although there will be no visitation a rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at the Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne.
