ERNEST (ERNIE) W. STEFFENS

Ernest (Ernie) W. Steffens, 74, of Cedar Rapids, IA and formerly of Norborne, MO, died at 5:30 p.m., on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center in Cedar Rapids.
Ernest was born on July 5, 1936 in Carrollton, MO to William C. and Ida M. (Hockemeier) Steffens. He married Michelle Ball on December 10, 1961, they later divorced in August of 1972.
Survivors include one daughter Melissa Akey and her husband Timothy of St. Cloud, FL, one brother Herbert Steffens and his wife Marilyn of Lake Waukomis, MO, one sister Ella Mae Hansen and her husband Jon of Shawnee Mission, KS, one nephew Craig Hansen and his wife Kendra of Carthage, MO two nieces Kimberly Fortuna and her husband Wally of Excelsior Springs, MO and Laura Spidle and her husband Andrew of Kansas City, MO.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents.
Ernest was raised and educated in Norborne. He had served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked as an electronic technician at the Collins Corporation in Cedar Rapids. He was a past member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Norborne and currently a member of the First Methodist Church in Marion, IA.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Trinity Lutheran Church in Norborne or the First Methodist Church in Marion.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne, MO. Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne. Burial will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery north of Norborne. Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne is in charge of the arrangements.
