Obituary

James Richard Keen "J.R." 70, of Richmond, MO was called home to his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 24, 2018.

He was born on October 25, 1947 in Cassville, MO to Jack Orlie Keen and Lola Mae Henbest Keen.

He is survived by his wife, Sarah Bryan Coffer Keen of Richmond MO; five sons, Jay Keen of Kansas City, John Keen of Joplin MO, Chris Coffer and his wife, Kelly of Liberty, MO, Andy Coffer and his wife, Robin of Rockwell, NC and Bryan Coffer and his wife, Shelly of Odessa, MO; mother-in-law, Virginia Bryan of Richmond; two sisters, Rose Marie Keen Hall of Joplin MO and Jackie Lou Keen Barnhart of Tunica MS; J.R. was a loving grandfather of 7 grandchildren, Savannah Keen, James Keen, Taylor Coffer, Ashlynn Coffer, Andie Elizabeth Coffer, Brylly Coffer and Elyssa Coffer; he has one surviving uncle, Leon Henbest of Carl Junction MO; six nieces, Debby Woodin and Teresa Baker of Joplin MO, Shelley Walters of Neosho, MO, Terri Younger Miller of Nappa Valley CA; Alice Younger Frank of Bella Vista, AR; Lori Barnhart Stephens of Tunica MS; two nephews, Dale Younger of Grove OK;  Scott Barnhart of Lisle, IL.  He has a number of cousins he truly loved and remained close to for a lifetime.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother and sister, Willa Elizabeth Keen Younger.

J.R. was a lifetime resident of the Joplin and Kansas City area, except for the time he served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.  He attended Joplin Senior High participating in the ROTC program, and graduated with the Class of 1966. On his return from Military Service he attended MSSU. After graduation from MSSU he established his home and business in Kansas City Mo. In 2000 J.R. started his own business where he worked as a field salesman and traveled throughout the Midwest. He enjoyed working out of his office in the open world. J.R. was of the Christian faith.

The family suggests memorial contributions may be made to either the American Diabetes Association or to the Compassionate Care Hospice in Independence, MO.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, April 30, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 30, 2018 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Inurnment will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by the Ray County Veterans.
