JANE ADAMS LILE

Jane Clair Adams Lile, 96, formerly of Richmond, Missouri, passed away, Friday, August 14, 2015 surrounded by her loving family at the home of her daughter, Susan Rodgers, in Newburgh, Indiana.

Mrs. Lile was born on June 29, 1919 in Hopkinsville, Kentucky to Roscoe S. and Mable (McShane) Adams.   She married George David Lile of Richmond on February 26, 1944.

Survivors include her two daughters and one son-in-law, Susan and Larry Rodgers of Newburgh and Patty Endsley of Durham, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Chad Rodgers (Cammy), Jacquelyn MacDougall (Daniel), Jenny Eigenrauch (Adam), Kimberly Stoltz (Jim), Megan Huber (Troy), Chris Rodgers (Jeremy Hodges); 17 great-grandchildren; one brother, William H. Adams of Charlottesville, Virginia; two sisters Kathleen Lunsford of Roanoke, Virginia and Betty Ann Rogers of Raleigh, North Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband George D. Lile (January 30, 2003) and one brother Roscoe S. Adams, Jr.

Mrs. Lile grew up in Charlottesville, Virginia and graduated from Mary Washington College. While teaching in Norfolk, she met George, who was serving as a Navy medic during WW II. Following the war, she moved to Richmond where she was active with her husband in the ownership and operation of the Quest-Lile Funeral Home. She was very involved in civic, community and church affairs, including Girl Scouts, DAR, PEO, the hospital auxiliary, the Altar Society, and community elections. She spent many years as a PE teacher at Richmond High School, where she was known for her gentile manner and "Southern" accent. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, knitting, golfing, playing bridge, antiquing, and "chit-chatting" with people. Throughout her life, her family was her pride and joy, the center of her thoughts and activities. She was a devoted wife, mother, and "Granny" to each member of her family. She was dearly loved.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Altar Society of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Richmond or the Ray County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 21, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home, Richmond.   Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. when the Rosary will be recited prior to services.   Interment will be in the Sunny Slope Cemetery, Richmond.
