Jane A
Ross
Dec 8, 1937 — Mar 26, 2025
Jane A Ross, of Carrollton MO, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in Carrollton.
Jane was born December 8, in Brunswick, MO, to William H. and Lovie (Casner) Hoddle. She was united in marriage to Glenn E Kohler; two children were born to this union, Jeffrey A Kohler and Jill A Kohler. They later divorced.
She is survived by her children, Jeffrey A Kohler and Jill A. Kohler, both of Carrollton; her brother, J.W. (Judy) Hoddle; her grandchildren: Justin Kohler (Kaleigh Vinje), Will (Sadie) Keck and Cara Kohler (Kaleb Dillon); her great-grandchildren: Eli, Hunter, Pasleigh, Grayson, Gracie, Danny, Jackson, Gene and Joleen; stepdaughters, Jackie (Mike) Burger and Cindy (Larry) Cauble; many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Harold, in infancy, sister, Melba Hittner, brother in-law, Richard "Dick" Hittner, her grandson, Dustin A Kohler, husband, Jack Ross and a stepson, Dan Ross.
In her early years, Jane was an active member of the Girl Scouts and graduated from Carrollton High School in 1955, where she was a cheerleader and involved in a variety of school activities. Her strong work ethic and love for her community were evident throughout her life.
Jane began her professional career working for attorneys Christian Stipp and Carlos Edwards. She later became the owner and operator of Carroll Bowl, where she was a passionate bowler, competing in multiple leagues and traveling across the state for tournaments. She went on to work for the Farm Service Agency, both in Carrollton and Jefferson City, Missouri, and retired from the USDA in February of 2002 after many years of dedicated service.
Never one to sit still, Jane stayed active after retirement by working at McDonald's in Carrollton and assisting at the law office of Jim Rahm. She was a talented bridge player and a proud member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Deeply committed to serving others, she also served as a longtime board member of the Senate Bill 40 Board and was a devoted member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton.
Jane was a fabulous cook, best known for her secret-recipe cinnamon rolls that became a beloved family favorite. She often helped plan and prepare meals with the residents of Jefferson Park, sharing her culinary talents and warm hospitality.
A true horsewoman at heart, Jane spent many years showing horses and was a devoted member of the Carrollton Saddle Club. She participated in numerous trail rides and parades, including the American Royal Parade in Kansas City. One of her most cherished places to ride was in Eminence, Missouri—where in August of 1974, she married the love of her life, Jack Ross, on horseback. Riding remained a special tradition she shared with her son and grandchildren every August until her health no longer allowed.
Jane was also an avid sports fan, cheering on the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. A voracious reader, she often read two to three books a week and always had a new story to dive into.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Gilead Cemetery or the Carrollton Public Library for large print books in memory of Jane.
