Obituary

Jeffrey "Jeff" Thomas Strathman, 71, of Carrollton, passed away Sunday, May 17, 2026, at North Care Hospice House in North Kansas City.

Jeff was born on April 10, 1955, in Carroll County, the son of Norman G. and Muriel E. (Gieschen) Strathman.  He was united in marriage to Carlene L. Mais of Carrollton on November 5, 1983; she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include: son, Micah Thomas (Kortney) Strathman of Carrollton; grandson, Cooper Thomas Strathman; two brothers, Daniel Strathman of Fort Smith, AR, and Hanock "Hank" Ben Keshet of Israel; sister, Nancy Browne of Florida; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Strathman of Marshall.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Richard "Rocky" Strathman.

Jeff was raised and educated in the area of his birth and graduated from Norborne High School in the class of 1973. Following high school, he attended Missouri Western in St. Joseph. Jeff spent many years working as a mechanic for Heins Implement (Carroll County Equipment) in Carrollton from 1975 until 1995, while also operating the family farm. After retiring from Heins Implement, he devoted himself full-time to farming, a way of life that was not simply his occupation, but his true calling. A lifelong farmer, Jeff was known as an honest, dependable, and hard-working man who deeply loved the land he cared for each day.

When he wasn't tending to the farm, Jeff could often be found tinkering in his shed, gardening, raising sweet corn, or admiring and working on John Deere tractors. He and Carlene shared a life rooted in faith, hard work, and the simple beauty of country living. Jeff was of the Christian faith and often said, "I feel closest to God when I'm on my tractor." He was a faithful steward of the land who found God's presence in nature — in the trees, the fields, and in watching things grow. Above all, Jeff treasured his family, his farm, and the quiet blessings of the life he built.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to H.E.L.P. Services of Carrollton or Fairhaven Cemetery, Norborne.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.

A memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 28, 2026, at Thurman Funeral Home in Norborne.  Inurnment will be held at a later date in Fairhaven Cemetery, Norborne.  Please remember to share your memories of Jeff with the family by visiting www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
