JOANNE HERTZIG
Joanne Hertzig, 87, of Higginsville, MO formerly of Hardin and Richmond, MO area died Thursday, February 22, 2018 at Centerpoint Hospital in Independence, MO.
Joanne was born on April 18, 1930 in Green Forest, AR to Henry and Vela (Jackson) Griffith. She married Raymond Alexander "Lex" Hertzig of Hardin, MO on August 16, 1953. He preceded her in death on July 15, 2004.
Survivors include; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Pam Hertzig of Richmond; one daughter, Alison Schuler of Liberty, MO; three sisters, Janet Clower of Fayetteville, AR, Mary Lou Goldsworthy of Lovelock, NV and Carolyn Stuart of Wenatchee, WA; 6 grandchildren, Dr. Amanda Healy (Dr. Anthony),
Dr. Lindsay Hertzig (Mark Cummins), Thomas Lewis, Megan Lewis, Katie Crowder (Ben) and Nikki Schuler; and 10 great- grandchildren also survive.
In addition to her parents and husband, Joanne was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack Griffith and Ken Griffith; and one son-in-law, Craig Schuler.
Joanne graduated from Drury College in Springfield, MO and was also a post graduate from Central Missouri College in Warrensburg, MO. After college she was a teacher for 30 years in the Hardin and Richmond school districts. Joanne was a very active member at the Hardin United Methodist Church where she played the organ and piano. She was a member of the Hardin Chapter CR P.E.O, Beta Tau Chapter-Delta Kappa Gamma, Ray County Hospital Auxiliary, Ray County retired teachers and Sigma Alpha Iota. Joanne lived in the Hardin and Richmond area before moving to John Knox Village in Higginsville, MO 6 years ago.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Richmond United Methodist Church or the Hardin Chapter CR P.E.O.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 26, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at the Richmond United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Sunday, February 25, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with a P.E.O. service at 4:30 p.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery. Online condolences maybe left on our website at www.thurmanfuneralhome.com
