John was a fighter from the day he was born.  He faced many physical challenges, always with a smile.  The first five years of his life were spent in Children's Mercy Hospital.  He was reared and educated in Archie and graduated from Archie High School in the class of 1980.  John was always smiling, happy, and loved to talk to anyone about anything.  He was the poster child for March of Dimes and made many TV appearances on the Torey Southwick and Ol' Gus Show.  John enjoyed playing poker stars, listening to his police scanner and audio books, history, and arguing politics.

The family wishes to thank the Ray County Hospital, North Kansas City Hospital, and Shirkey Hospice.  A special thank you to the hospice nurses Kathy, Kathy, and Rachel, his social worker, Becky, and Reverend Tom Owens.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either Children's Mercy Hospital or to the charity of your choice.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
