JOHN W. LOWMAN, SR.

John W. Lowman, Sr., 86, of Brighton, IL and formerly of Hardin, MO and Kansas City, MO died Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at North Kansas City Hospital in North Kansas City, MO.

John was born on April 13, 1929 in Henrietta, MO to Harry and Leona May (Lewis) Lowman. He married Martha Faye Hontz of Rosedale, KS on March 26, 1949. She preceded him in death on September 18, 2006.

Survivors include three grandchildren and their spouses, Sheri and Mike Bartold, Debbie and Greg Tolle and James Sturm; 6 great-grandchildren, Daemon, Jared, Joe, John, Morgan and William; and one daughter-in-law, Nancy Lowman of Norborne, MO.

In addition to his parents and wife, John was preceded in death by one son, John W. Lowman, Sr.; and one daughter, Mary Leona Thornhill.

John was a United States Marine Corp Veteran of WWII. He was a truck driver for Kroger Foods for several years. He was a member of the Moose Lodge #1161 in Lexington, MO. He was also a member of the American Legion in Hardin, MO. John loved to garden. He lived in Kansas City and Hardin before moving to Illinois in 2015.  He was a loving father and grandfather.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Moose Lodge #1161 in Lexington, MO.

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 24, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Richmond Memory Gardens Cemetery, where military honors will be provided by the Ray County Veterans. Visitation will be Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond where a moose service will be held at 10:45 a.m. Online condolences may be left on our website at www.thurmanfuneralhome.com
