JOHN HARLAN RASA
John Harlan Rasa, 79, of Lexington, MO and formerly of Independence, MO died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 3:55 a.m. at his home in Lexington.
Harlan was born on January 17, 1933 in Dover, MO to John Herbert and Lorine Maria Alvine (Buhlig) Rasa. He married Doris M. Thomas of Cassville, MO on February 28, 1958; she survives of the home.
Additional survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Gregory L. and Alicia Shankland-Rasa of Kirkland, WA; two daughters and one son-in-law, Deanna G. Bodenhamer of Independence, MO and Roger and Brenda J. Rasa-Kern of St. Louis, MO; five grandchildren and their spouses, Joshua and Marie Bodenhamer, Chad and Leanna Murphy, Ashley Bodenhamer, John Bodenhamer and Hope Rasa; and four great-grandchildren, Kendahl Bodenhamer, Jacob Murphy, Lucas Murphy and Lilliana Bodenhamer.
In addition to his parents, Harlan was preceded in death by one brother, Francis L. "Frank" Rasa, one sister, Bernice Dobson, one nephew, Russell Steve Rasa and one niece, Linda Dobson Curtis.
Harlan was a foreman in the dairy business for 36 years working for Borden Dairy and retiring with Foremost Dairy in July of 1990. He was a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ in Lexington and had served on the board. John had lived in Independence, MO before moving to Lexington in 1991. He was a member of the St. Luke's U.C.C. for 33 years in Independence, MO. He was also a member of the Lexington Turners Society and a life member of the Lexington V.F.W. Post #4052. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of the Korean War.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Lexington Trinity United Church of Christ or to C.A.R. (Cancer Assistance Relief).
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Lexington Trinity United Church of Christ. Visitation will be Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Church. Burial will be in Lexington Memory Gardens Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the United States Army Honor Guard. Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond, MO is in charge of the arrangements.
