JOYCE A. SOLOMON

Joyce A. Solomon, 91, of Richmond, Mo, died on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Shirkey Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond.

Joyce was born on October 10, 1925 in Sweet Springs, Mo to William D. and Edna D. (Wheeland) Briggs. She married Glen Bell Solomon of San Benito, TX on March 20, 1944. He preceded her in death on October 22, 1982.

Survivors include; 1 son and daughter-in-law, Glen A. and Carol Solomon of Hamilton, Mo, 2 daughters, Susan E. Bartlett of Higginsville, Mo, Patty Jo Solomon of Richmond, Mo, 1 sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Norman Wall of Springfield, Mo, 2 grandchildren, Derek William Goring and his wife, Dawn, Sara Vaughn and her husband, Richard, 2 great-grandchildren Jade E. Goring and Caroline S. Vaughn. A son-in-law, Paul Goring of Higginsville, Mo and several nieces and nephews also survives.

In addition to her parents and husband, Joyce was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Linda A. Goring, 3 sisters, Ferree Cordes, Jane Viets and Jean Solomon.

Joyce and Glen moved to Richmond in December of 1960, when Glen moved with the Fowlers when they took over the International Harvester Dealership. She was a 1943 graduate from Sweet Springs High School. Joyce submitted the winning name in a contest sponsored by the City of Richmond which named the park and swimming pool Richmond Southview. She served as a foster grandparent at the Woodson-Dear Elementary School for 11 years. She was a member of the Richmond First Baptist Church. Joyce moved with Glen to 3 stateside Army bases and while there she helped serve in the war effort during WW II. In November of 1988, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of traveling to the Holy Land.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Richmond First Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Richmond First Baptist Church. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Interment will be held in the Fairview Cemetery in Sweet Springs, Mo at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2016. On line condolences may be left on our website at www.thurmanfuneralhome.com.
