JUDITH HOGAN WATKINS

Judith Hogan Watkins, 94, of Richmond, Mo. passed into Eternity on February 6, 2016 at home.

Judith was born October 26, 1921 in Rockingham, MO (Ray County) to Roy and Grace (Sandy) Hogan. She graduated from Norborne High School in 1940. She was a member of Norborne High School's first marching band, playing the English horn.

She married James Smith Watkins of Richmond on August 6, 1946 in Brunswick, MO. He preceded her in death in 1996.

Judith first worked in Richmond at Central Drug for Mr. Perry Settle. She worked for many years at Rader's Clothing for Mr. Ralph Rader and his son, Burl Rader. The later she worked as a bookkeeper for Ty Lumber. She volunteered for many organizations including many years at Shirkey's Nursing and Rehabilitation holding a Bible Study group each Wednesday afternoon.

Judy was a member of Richmond United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for more than 60 years. She was also a member of many committees. She was a 50+ member of Richmond Chapter #255, Order of Eastern Star. She served as District Deputy Grand Matron of the 23 rd District, Worthy Matron and held several other offices. She was a member of the Kiwanis Arts Guild and participated in almost all of the musicals from Oklahoma in 1962 until Lil Abner in approximately 2000. She was also a member of the Farris Arts Guild and Friends of the Farris. Judy was a life member of the Ray County Historical Society and Museum and the Norborne Alumni Association.

Jim and Judy took many senior citizen bus trips from Ray County and she continued even after Jim passed away. She quickly became known as the bus entertainment telling jokes, funny stories and sometimes even singing silly songs. She always loved entertaining.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepmother, Elmina Hogan; two brothers, Eldred Hogan and Glen Hogan; three sisters, Joan Stevens, Ruth Harkey and Susie Tiffany.

Survivors are a daughter and son-in-law, Beth and John Hicks of Richmond; a grandson, James Jackson Hicks of Benton, AR; a brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Ann Carolyn Hogan of Kansas City MO. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Richmond United Methodist Church Endowment Fund or the Friends of the Farris.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Richmond United Methodist Church. Visitation will be Friday, February 12, 2016 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the church where the Order of Eastern Star will be recited at 5:30 p.m. at the Richmond United Methodist Church in Richmond.
