Karen Joyce McBee, 82, of Hardin, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2024, at her home.

Karen was born on May 23, 1942, in Russellville, the daughter of W.H. "Junior" and Lois Emogene (Summers) Frazer.  She was united in marriage to Paul Daniel McBee of Richmond on September 18, 1966; he preceded her in death on July 1, 2020.

Survivors include: two sons, Daniel "Shawn" (Chelsi) McBee and Steven Travis (Jennifer) McBee, both of Overland Park, KS; daughter, Amanda (Russell) Chinn of San Angelo, TX; six grandchildren: Austin Chinn, Emily Chinn, Jack McBee, Grant McBee, Fox McBee, and Breckyn McBee; sister-in-law, Marilyn Jean Frazer; and stepsister, Candice (Rick) Williams-Woodcock of Canada.

In addition to her parents and husband, Karen was preceded in death by brother, David Wayne Frazer, and stepmother, Helen Frazer.

Karen was born on the family farm near Russellville, where she was raised and educated. She graduated from Stet High School before attending Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, earning her bachelor's degree in education. After completing her studies, she returned to her hometown and began her teaching career as a physical education teacher in Richmond, where she met her future husband, Paul.

Following their marriage, Paul enlisted in the United States Navy, and Karen supported his military career by teaching in various locations as they moved frequently. After his service, the couple settled in St. Louis before relocating in 1975 to their longtime home just north of Hardin.

Karen was deeply rooted in her community and actively participated in numerous organizations. She was a member of P.E.O., several teaching associations, and volunteered regularly at Ray County Hospital. Her dedication to community service extended through her involvement in many other clubs and organizations. She was also a faithful member of New Hope Methodist Church.

Karen had a love for games and was a long-standing member of a Bridge Club. She was an avid reader who enjoyed sharing her passion through her book club. Her warmth and enthusiasm for these activities created lasting bonds with friends and family, and her memory will be cherished by all who knew her.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either the New Hope Methodist Church or cemetery.  They can be left at or mailed to Thurman Funeral Home, 507 East Main Street-P.O. Box 190, Richmond, MO 64085.
